“If we can put a man on the moon, surely there has to be a cost-effective way to make residential or commercial floors beautiful.” — Doc Metzger
The story of Fanta Se Floors begins with the new millennium and the founding of
Metzger Industrial Maintenance Supply, Inc. and a solution to a nagging problem.
Problem: One of the most commonly used floor coverings is Vinyl Composite Tile, or VCT. But VCT has a major drawback. That is, when damaged pieces are replaced – even with tiles from the original color lot – they never looked right. Founder and majority owner Russell “Doc” Metzger began to wrestle with VCT’s problem.
Solution: Doc came up with a simple idea. Why not just re-color the entire floor? Take an existing VCT floor in need of repair. Replace any broken or cracked tiles with any color at all. Apply several coats of color, and voila! A beautiful new floor.
Not only that. The Fanta Se Floor process could also be used to encapsulate existing Vinyl Asbestos Tile. In fact, Doc was only beginning to realize the potential uses of his product.
The first major test for Doc and the boys was a school in Los Lunas, NM. And there was a twist. This project was to re-color an existing stained concrete floor that had failed. Doc went to work reformulating his Fanta Se base product so it would adhere to concrete. The job was a huge success, and the rest, as they say, is history.
With unlimited design capabilities, the process and the company have experienced continuous growth. Originally called “Metzger CPS” for “Colored Polymer System,” Doc patented his process with the trademark name Fanta Se Floors. The coatings can be applied to concrete, three-quarter decking, linoleum, VCT, VAT, terrazzo, and more. Please watch our short video.
